Today feels like a good day to speak of gratitude.
We are so grateful for all of our donors, and we wholeheartedly give thanks for everything we have. As we finish up Thanksgiving and eagerly dive into shopping for the holidays, it’s easy to forget that there are others out there who have recently lost their homes.
More than 48% of Puerto Rico still has no power, and food is still scarce on the island. Our fellow citizens didn’t have a chance to celebrate Thanksgiving, and are still hurting greatly. We know it can be hard to empathize with those so far away. Americans have always been amazing about rallying together as a community, and supporting fellow citizens locally. We are so proud to be a part of a locale like that ourselves. But sometimes we’re called on to offer just a little extra, for when another American community, like Puerto Rico, needs more help than they can manage on their own.
Too many people disparage Americans as being materialistic, especially around the holidays. But a quick look at our nation’s individual donations to charity has shown a rise of almost 6% in the last 4 years. During the years 2014 and 2015, charitable donations were record breaking, (even adjusted for inflation), achieving the highest seen in the last 60 years. And I believe it’s because globalization is leading to more social awareness, and an increase in philanthropy in our average spender. This spender wants to make an impact, and truly make the world a better place. The world needs hope, and that is something that every single one of us can offer.
We at On The Ground Aid thank you for considering us in your donations this year. We work hard to make a big impact with a small dollar amount. With no building overheads, and comprised mostly of volunteers, we are truly able to send every dollar where it’s needed. If you feel so inclined, you can donate whatever you’re able here.
“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”
John Wesley
Thank you again! We are truly not possible without you.
